Sing With Us
The Sacred Music Chorale consists of about 60 members from all over the Puget Sound region. Membership is open to all who respect our mission.
From The Director
This coming year is going to be a busy one for us all, and I can’t wait to get started! Chorale members have a chance to sing the Mozart Requiem with other local groups on 9/11, followed by our Christmas concert series in mid-December and a unique Lenten concert series in early March. We then gear up for a monumental performance of Verdi’s Requiem with the Sammamish Symphony Orchestra and other local choruses at Benaroya Hall to finish the season.
I would love for you to join us! The rest of this page has lots of information about us, but I’m happy to answer any further questions, so don’t hesitate to ask.
Participation
Member dues are $125 annually, with a one-time $20 music deposit. Scholarships are available as needed; we never turn away anyone for financial reasons.
Our year is broken into two semesters:
- The Fall semester begins in late August with a reading session and picnic, followed by rehearsals starting in September and culminating in a mid-December concert series.
- The Spring semester begins in January and typically finishes with a second concert series in mid-May.
Rehearsals are offered each week, mostly on Sunday afternoons from 3:00-5:30pm at Trinity Parish Church in downtown Seattle. In addition, one Saturday each semester is dedicated to an all-day workshop focused on intensive study of our music.
Members are expected to attend the workshop and most rehearsals, and should work on learning their parts prior to each rehearsal.
Concert attire is a standard black tuxedo for men and a common black dress for women. Members are responsible for purchasing their attire prior to their first concert.
Benefits
The Sacred Music Chorale offers a friendly and supportive environment for learning. At the start of each semester, every member is given a rehearsal CD with their particular parts highlighted for each piece. Further learning resources are available online.
The Chorale opens solo opportunities to any member who is willing to audition. Our Spring 2011 performance for example featured eight separate soloists!
We professionally record at least one concert each season, and each participant is presented with a nicely mastered copy of this recording on CD at the start of the following semester.
We have the privilege of performing with a wide range of local musicians, from small orchestral ensembles to brass quintets, enriching the beauty of our music.
Sheet music and a black performance folder are included as part of the member dues. The Chorale maintains an extensive library of past works to draw from.
Schedule An Audition
If you are interested in singing with us, please contact our Artistic Director or call 206-457-2993 to arrange for an audition.
Auditions consist of an interview with the director and a series of exercises to determine vocal placement. The entire process is very non-threatening and will take approximately 1/2 hour.
Previous choral singing experience is suggested. Sightreading and interval recognition are not a requirement; the ability to catch on quickly is much more important.
